Chulucanas is a province in northern Peru known for its pottery. The unique feature of Chulucanas ceramics lies in the ancient technique of combining hand molding and palette brush strokes, along with hand-painted "negative painting" using natural pigments and an oxygen-reduction firing process. The ceramics are then smoked with mango leaves at high temperatures. Chulucanas ceramics are characterized by a black base, oval shape, and geometric designs.
